When children move, they face many challenges emotionally and physically. When parents move, the same thing happens only magnified and multiplied. Parents experience stress related to a number of things involved in moving with children:
· the nuts and bolts of the move; the how’s, where’s and when’s;
· their own emotions about the move as well as the physical impact of the move; and
· providing comfort, support and the necessary skills to help their children overcome the emotional and physical impacts of moving.
No one should have to go it alone which is why the Moving Families Initiative is so important. In our previous post you met Debbi Hester, one of the many MFI Preferred Real Estate Agents who help to ensure parents are equipped with the necessary information and resources to make moving as smooth as possible. One of the ways Debbi does that is to get families connected in their community, in particular through involvement in extracurricular activities. In this blog, we’ve highlighted just how critical extracurricular activities are here and here.
Feeling isolated from family, friends and community can have negative impacts on both parents and children. Stay connected by getting and staying active in extracurricular activities. Get connected with a MFI Preferred Real Estate Agent to help you build your own Written Game Plan to navigate the challenges of moving. Make sure your own connectivity is part of this game plan.
